Thirty-First Exhibition
Blowawish is the creation of Arianna Russo and was conceived as a space without boundaries where conceptual investigations towards the origin of form could take place. Her use of clay, the essence of earth, is intended as space in potential.
In the second White Walls Project, Blowawish will show three collections of work together for the first time. Núvols 2011, Unglazed polished porcelain: This collection explores the natural ambiguity of clouds. Topography 2011, pigmented unglazed porcelain, a tribute to the beauty of the earth using porcelain that alludes to geological stratification. Prestige 2012, unglazed porcelain and plastic, this series is based on the Galician ecological disaster of 2002 to express feelings of frustration against sea contamination.
Arianna is both architect and ceramist. She started her architectural career working with internationally renowned design offices such as ECDM in Paris and Zaha Hadid Architects in London. The artist’s background goes some way to explain her interest in spatial relationships, concepts of surface and the meaning of site. These concepts drive Arianna to search for a dialogue between architectural theory and contemporary sculptural practice.
In 2005 she met the ceramic artist, Emmanulle Wittmann, and from there chose ceramic sculpture as a means of expression. Over the years, Arianna has combined her career as an architect with ongoing training in ceramics; helping her to refine her own technique and develop a personal language.
In 2010 she established Blowawish in Barcelona and now fully dedicates her time to ceramic sculpture, one-off creations and collaborations on projects and exhibitions around the world.
Exhibition from 23 Aug – 23 Sept 2012
