The Garage, Moscow
EXHIBIT has been commissioned by the Iris Foundation with PJC Light Studio as the lighting architect to develop a lighting master-plan for The Garage Centre of Contemporary Culture Moscow (CCCM). The Centre is housed within the former Bakhmetevsky Bus Garage, a 20th century Russian master-piece designed by the Constructivist architect Konstantin Melnikov in1926.
The centre was one of post-Soviet Russia’s most ambitious art projects to date and work was finalised in 2010.
The project itself was filled with challenges, demanding an intensely coordinated design process. The lighting system needed to be flexible enough to cope with the on-going needs of several renovation stages while maintaining the facility for large exhibitions such as Kabakovs, Francois Pinault and Anthony Gormley.
