Comix Home Base, Hong Kong
Spatial design, curating facilitation and lighting design by co-creation process with the architects, artists and the client, Hong Kong Arts Centre.
Following our appointment last year as the design consultant and lighting designer in collaboration with MDD9 Design Studio for the Comix Home Base in Hong Kong, we recently designed and conducted co-creation design workshops with staff members at the Hong Kong Arts Centre.
Our aim is to direct design development of the project. This co-creation process is part of EXHIBIT’s task to bring architects, artists and the client together to develop a cohesive programme and planning.
The story started in 2005, the Hong Kong Urban Renewal Authority announced a pilot project to revitalize ten Grade II listed pre-war tenement houses in Wan Chai. Commonly known as “Green House”, these pre-war residential blocks, occupied 2 streets standing back to back, create a complete and well-preserved architectural heritage in the urban environment in Hong Kong.
In 2011, EXHIBIT was commissioned by Hong Kong Art Centre & Urban Renewal Authority to co-develop the buildings into new cultural use, and to be responsible for the lighting masterplan. Working in conjunction with MDD9 Design Studio & Aedas Architects, the project sets to promote the understanding and development of comic and contemporary culture of Hong Kong.
