Bag for Better
Bag for Better is a fund raising project dedicated to helping children and families in mainland China directly affected by AIDS. Initiated by a group of volunteers, a 100 artists, designers and celebrities are invited to participate in the fund raising event. Each participant is given a plain canvas bag and asked to create a design with his/her own message. Once all the bags are collected, they will be exhibited at the YY9 Gallery and sold under silent auction. The bid of each bag starts from HK$1,000 (approx. £80) and all proceeds will be donated to the Chi Heng Foundation.
Yanki is delighted to be invited as one of the 100 to participate in this project. The idea was inspired by the pop art visual and the fact that it is the only bag travelling all the way to London. AIDS in China is not an isolated issue. We hope the bag can carry a global message that shows this is a matter for everyone.
The graphics is composed by the words HIV+ and colored in a Union Jack fashion. We hope the discussion about HIV issue will be more open and make it a positive and supportive thinking by seeing the icon in our everyday life, i.e. a shopping bag.
The exhibition and auction has been scheduled to open in May with the reception to be held in line with World AIDS Orphans Day on 7th May.
Special thanks to Sergeant Frank Thornborrow.
