The Ananas Project
EXHIBIT has been invited by textile designer and social innovator Carmen Hijosa to collaborate in the development of a revolutionary new material. Its production is to be based on a vision of ethical, ecological and social responsibility.
Essentially a research project, it is complex and unique in that it aims to adhere to the principles of Cradle to Cradle©. This approach is founded on developing products that are safe for human health and the environment – at every stage of their production – and which can be perpetually reused in technical or biological cycles.
The research group aims to engage students and designers locally based groups of makers, to promote social and ecological awareness and to build upon their own knowledge of sustainable ideas through participation and workshops. It is envisaged that the results of the project will enable cost effective and transferable technologies to be carried across countries.
We are currently in the process of fundraising to establish support for a multidisciplinary design team who will travel to a site of production in the Philippines and work with local school children. This will consist of a product designer, an architect. an applied artist and design researchers.
