Ageing in Kensington
The Methods Lab at the Royal College of Art London encourages design students to create new ways of social interaction for local residents of all ages including a campaign of volunteering for the elderly, encouraging older people to eat out, meet others and support local businesses.
It is a week long design activities conducted every year since 2008 by Yanki for the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design at the Royal College of Art in London. Each year, over 40 art and design students work in 4 interdisciplinary teams are asked to design creative events to engage people with disability and those from a range of age groups.
Since 2010, the theme of the lab has been “Ageing in Kensington”, an extension of Yanki’s research entitled “Aging in Place”. The project also invited design tutor, Liesbeth Huybrechts, and her students from Faculty of Art and Architecture (FAK) of University of Leuven and the Media, Art & Design Faculty (MAD) in Genk, Belgium to participate.
